Todd Cordell: Devils top Islanders, Josefson out 4-6 with fractured wrist, other notes - Todd.Cordell
it looked like the sec we got the lead we just wanted to shut down the isles and not give up any chances, i think we took our foot off the gas a lil too much
josefson needs to drink milk or something, from what i saw it wasnt a hard hit or anything that you would think would break/fracture a wrist (at the game so maybe replays/tv showed it differently?) but that does hurt our depth, while his 2 goals wont look like much he has played very well and has been getting chances lately and the line was creating opportunities with him
and FYI stephan gionta was called up |

Looking at the year as a whole, I'd say Patty or Kovy would be a better choice for MVP. Kovalchuk obviously because he has played a ridiculous amount of minutes, leads our team in points, and has been a solid two way player for majority of the year. Elias has carried that second line and has been good defensively too. This isn't to say Parise hasn't been good, but this season those 2 have had a better season. |

Josefson made our 4th line a GOOD 4th line, made it a threat, made it a trio of players that other teams had to actually defend, a line that kept a high forcheck without sacrificing defense. It was a line we could trust every shift, a line that could get 10 minutes, a line that could prevent our top lines from getting overworked and tired in a long playoff run.
But it is what it is and i need to stop complaining. We'll have him back mid May... so possibly Conference Final and/or Cup Final. We have to go at the least, 2 series without him. Without a solid 4th line center. Carter is ok.. but man. hh. alright. onwards. |

the players know and see stuff we don't, they know he deserved it. Either that, or they hope this small showing of appreciation encourages him to re-sign ha |

I guess Gionta isn't a bad option, essentially, we just need a guy that can play along the boards offensively whilst being reliable defensively. Gionta isn't a bad option.
IMO, it's Zharkov, Tedenby, or Zalewski. If we face the Panthers, play Tedenby as the Panthers don't have any real enforcers, like the Rangers/Bruins do. Against other teams, you might want to have a Boulton in your line-up just in case. |

Todd, just leave the Zidlicky trade alone. Seemingly every blog you post something about how he's getting big minutes to try to remind everyone that you said you were behind the trade when it first happened.
Zid is seeing a lot of minutes, but that is because he is playing with an inexperienced corp. Don't get me wrong, he has done very well, I'm not saying this has been a bad trade by any means, but its also not a spectacular trade like you make it out to be.
Foster, Veilleux, and Palmieri aren't putting up big numbers because they're playing for a team that will be on the golf course by the end of the week. This trade is too early to judge because Zid still has another year and another massive cap hit coming next year. Who knows if he can play then?
My point is, stop posting something every other blog trying to troll people about how you said you thought it was a good idea to trade for Zidlicky because A) its too early to tell, and B) he hasn't been phenomenal, just solid |

Foster and Veillieux are also UFAs at year end.
If they don't cash in for Minny now, unless they resign, which is doubtful, when are they going to, therefore, right now their last remaining piece from the trade is Palmieri. Both Veillieux and Foster failed, and both are likely gone. That leaves the trade, for next year, as Palmieri and a 2nd, and if we reach the ECF, I will give up that 3rd round pick any day of the year. |

Not at all, but Foster was a role player that turned around our power play. I dont know what to expect out of Palmieri, and a high round draft pick is what it is. But you're missing the point. We're a team witha budget that's trying to resign our captain and 9 other upcoming free agents on our roster. We just took a massive contract that we won't be able to move. Who knows, he could turn out great, but we're now locked into our fate with him and have that much less money to give to Parise and others.

A. With Zidlicky, our PP is 10x better, maybe not cashing in, but Zidlicky is 10x the player Foster was.
B. Palmieri will be a third liner, maybe a second liner. He'll probably wind up like Bernier, and at best, Ponikarovsky. Those guys are easily replaceable, and if we keep one of Poni or Bernier, Palmieri is essentially replaced.
C. The Devils aren't on a "budget," if you've read anything, we have no trouble spending up to the cap, it's just that we have this debt in the background that we don't have the money to pay back, yet we can pay interest on it. Therefore, everything you said past that budget point is irrelevant.
If we didn't get Zidlicky, then I'm sure you and others would be female doging about the lack of a top-end puck-mover. Zidlicky is just that, whether you are too blind to realize it or not...

whats this budget your talking of? cap room? because we will have a bunch of it so no worry about parise leaving for that reason
the only way i see parise leaving is if he just doesnt want to be a devil, plain and simple
zidlicky is a player we as a team have been looking for, he doesnt just create on the pp he does it at even strength too, something foster couldnt, he also can bring the puck up which no other dman could do
and the asking price for a PMD these days is pretty darn high, as in 4mill+ |

which is stated, we know palmieri is a wild, and he hasnt produced there, and he really wasnt producing here either, he was demoted to the AHL and wasnt even producing down there, the only time he produced was when he was playing with kovy and zajac
he may turn out to be a decent 3rd liner maybe a low 2nd liner but nothing special |
|
|
|
Palmieri, Foster, and Viellieux were not going to get resigned and were in contract years...we basically traded players we weren't gonna resign for a defenseman that will help our pp for at least one more year to come...
Also saying Palmieri is like Ponikarovsky is a joke, Poni is a very underrated player and Palmieri hasn't done anything in his career without Kovy shoveling him points. |

You didn't read a word I said. At best, he will be like Ponikarovsky and even that is a stretch. |
